As I sit and bask in the early afternoon sun, I ignore the temperature and know spring is on the horizon. But there always seems to be time for one last cold or worse.

Running a home daycare, I was fully expecting my winter to be nothing but runny noses. The average child gets between 6 to 12 colds a year. Did that just send a chill up your spine too??

But truth be told, it wasn’t nearly that bad. We had one minor “outbreak” of a regular common cold – which only lasted about 3 mild days for the kids and one night for myself and the mister. Looking back, it really shouldn’t have surprised me. Cinnamon to the rescue!!

Cinnamon is an all natural antifungal and antibacterial oil and the key ingredient in Thieves – a bad ass spice blend  of cinnamon, cloves, rosemary and lemon, that improves immune function and cleans absolutely everything without any nasty synthetic ingredients.

The first step is to be in tune with your body. If you feel the slightest tickle, hint of congestion – time for action!! On days when I haven’t gotten enough sleep I follow these next steps too because I know I’m much more likely to come down with something when I’m sleep deprived.

Before I’m willing to admit I’m sick and through the duration of the symptoms you need to help support your natural immunity from germs and illness. I use a drop of Thieves on the bottom of my feet a couple times a day, use a drop of it in water as a gargle for sore throats and start taking Super C. Super C is an essential oil infused natural supplement that is absorbed faster and more completely than any other synthetic vitamin or mineral.

Next step is to clean. Those germs like to sit and wait for the next kiddo to put the toy in their mouth so the illness can make the rounds and prolong the pain. I add a couple of drops of Thieves Cleaner to water in a spray bottle and use it to disinfect all the toys and hard surface areas.

Cleaning will help stop the spread, but to lessen the coughs and colds of those who may already be sick (especially by two year olds who are more likely to cough in your mouth than anywhere else) a diffuser is your best secret weapon. Diffusing a blend with Eucalyptus like R.C from your starter kit, instantly helps anyone with congestion or coughs who is in the area. They feel better and lessen your exposure – win win!

So you have done your best, but you still caught the sniffles and are now using the diffuser on yourself. Which is fantastic, it will help you breathe, which will help you sleep. And THAT is key. Never underestimate the power of a good nights sleep.

There are oils for your other symptoms too – Pan Away for achy muscles, Peppermint for low energy and bad mood and Lavender to help you sleep and protect your nose from tender skin after too many tissues.

Everything described above is available in the Young Living Premium Starter Kit. If you think you’d like to start switching out the synthetic pharmaceuticals for a natural solution that works better than any Tylenol – send me a message and I will set you up! cardamomandcloves@live.ca – Ask me how you can get your kit for free!

Love, Spices & Good Health,
Jodi
